Homework

Homework Expectations
At The Ursuline Preparatory School Ilford we pride ourselves in the aspirations that we have for our pupils. We encourage our pupils to partake in specific homework tasks which will focus on the following:
  • Developing skills in a specific subject area.
  • Consolidating skills
  • Developing inquiry skills
  • Additional preparation and practice for Summative assessment tasks
  • Deepening understanding in regards to a specific topic area

In Key Stage 1, pupils receive the following tasks for homework:
  • Monday and Tuesday - Each half term, the pupils receive a ‘Creative homework’ task sheet. This will have a range of tasks which focus on: Reading skills, lateral thinking, positive mental wellbeing and a project which enables the children to partake in an independent exploration task that links to a specific topic area- (which they are studying in the classroom at that time). These tasks can be completed each week on a Monday and Tuesday and will be 'ongoing' tasks for the remainder of the half term. Please see below for some fantastic examples of some of the outcomes of the project work that pupils in Years 1 and 2 have produced.
  • Wednesday to Friday - Children receive a selection of English, Maths and Phonics homework. All of the latter are either a consolidation of previous learning tasks or an extension in order to challenge children’s thinking; enabling them to apply their understanding and skills to different tasks. These tasks must be completed and handed into the class teacher on a Monday morning.
